I first saw them on BBC2 in the late 70's. My earliest memory was of Stan in 'Below Zero' after he got out of the barrel with is huge belly. My other early memory was from 'Murder Case' - 'Wanted on the phone.... downstairs!' scene. That chair used to scare me as a child! After BBC2's screenings, I didn't see much of L&H then until they were released on video. I bought a few of them and got hooked again. I was also influenced by the book 'The Complete Films of' (William K. Everson) [which I now know didn't cover all their films!] Reading the reviews in that book made me want to watch the films I hadn't seen, so I increased my collection of Laurel & Hardy films. In 1992, I heard that there was gonna be a fight Laurel & Hardy Sons of the Desert meeting taking place at a pub not far from me. What great timing. I was already hooked by then, so went along to my first meeting with the 'Bacon Grabbers' tent. 16 years later, I'm more involved with the sons now than ever...

Pretty much the same...The Good old days when at 6 you'd get Harold LLoyd or L&H....Also Granada used to show the 'Tampered' with silents in School hol's...I remember them being at 11.40!
Same with the BG's as Angus

Well, for me it was completely different. Of course I'd heard of L&H, but I had never seen any of their films! Then I met this guy who was kind of into them a bit... In an act of extreme madness generosity I bought him the box set for Christmas..... and on Christmas Day we watched Big Business. That was it, hooked! I came along to the first meeting that I was available for & haven't looked back since. ;D

as I am a bit older than most Dirty Workers I rmember Bob Monkhouse doing "Mad Movies" and "Silents Please" , where I used to watch not only Laurel and Hardy but gave me a love for Keaton , Lloyd , Ben Turpin , Harry Langdon , all the great clowns and then I read about a convention in Haydock run by Come Clean , went to one of their meetings and found there were hundreds of people who liked the boys , never looked back

Well, as I said in my introduction, my first memory of Stan & Ollie was when I was only about 4yrs old in 1990/91. Someone had bought a video tape of theirs with "Brats", "Busy Bodies" & "Midnight Patrol" on it. The first one I ever saw was "Brats" & I remember giggling at Ollie going through the chest of drawers & them fighting all the time... I then ended up watching it more than my hoards of Disney videos...lol.
We also had County Hospital...I watched that loads aswell. Even now whenever I watch any of them four, it all comes flooding back ;D
