Stan & Ollie work from the sheriff`s office, and are given the job of delivering a summons and collecting an unpaid radio from Collis P. Kennedy. They arrive at his house to find the task more difficult than expected. Not a brilliantly funny film, but there are one or two sequences that made me laugh. Their first scene in the sheriff`s office isn`t too bad, a small routine with Stan`s hat gets the film underway. I like the scene with the ladder (if there's a ladder, there's always going to be a gag!)The scene is when Stan places the ladder against (Edgar) Collis P. Kennedy`s House, he finds it to be too short, so in an attempt to make it longer, he simply turns it upside down and hopes to get results. Stan is also proud of the police badge he wears, displaying his authority several times. The second half of the film is a bit too slow, with a couple of routines, trying to get the paper handed over to Edgar Kennnedy, these drag on too much and stop being funny after a short while. I like Edgar Kennedy`s fake plastic dog, very threatening! I'm not a big fan of silents, and this is one I will not be watching again for a while. One thing I did like about this film though, was the fact that you could see Stan & Ollie`s working relationship developing very nicely, and it`s good to see an early film to see the characters emerging. Despite, certain praises, I can only give it 5/10
