Even in this electronic age, the numerous books on Laurel and Hardy are still essential items in the true fan's collection. Maybe we could have a complete new section for them, so we could consider them title by title. My interest was roused by the info that the Mouland/Pawson book Laurel Before Hardy, is now so rare, Amazon has a third-party seller offering it for £108.10. (Why the 10p???). Anyway, Randy's book is plentiful but hard to get, and now in a new edition, Dean's Charlie Hall book is a "must", and new titles are on the way. Should we have some reviews and opinions of the written info about the Boys? Should start some interesting "discussions"

I Agree Judge, My favourite Books in my Collection are :- the Revised new Edition of The Laurel & Hardy Encyclopedia by Glen Mitchell which I bought Recently in a little shop in Ulverston, also, 'What Was The Film When, The Films of Laurel & Hardy' pocket Edition with a nice Foreword by Sir Norman Wisdom, With Excellent Photo's, Cast, Full Info on all Films, Complete Filmography, Quotes from the Films, The 'Sons' Constitution Rules and The 'Sons of the Desert' Song, plus a listing of All the solo Films of each of the 'Boys' and Classic Sketches, also, Dates & Places of the British Tours, I am always thumbing through this great little book by Mark Potts & Dave Shephard (nice photo of them on the back with Lois Laurel) Fits snugly into the pocket (goes with me always) I Thoroughly recommend this little book, I bought it from the Museum in Harlem. I also Recommend Dean McKeown's book, 'The Charlie Hall Picture Archive' full of great Photo's mostly from Charlie's personal collection. Also 'The Laurel & Hardy Digest' by Willie McIntyre, which I'm sure most of you will have. Well, Folks, That's all there is, there isn't any more !

I think there is a little more, actually...I couldn't live without Randy's "Magic Behind the Movies", it's a "soup to nuts" factfile on the Boys and ther movies. But maybe you were assuming we all knew that, Piedmont. Never seen the "pocket" book though, you've made me curious. More expense!!! Dohhh! BTW, which classic sketches are included? Does it have Spot of Trouble?

I've got quite a few books in my collection, including the now rare 'Laurel Before Hardy', which was given to me as a gift from the late Bill Cubin.
I'll leave my reviewing to what will now be some new threads on here!

Spooky. Bill gave me my copy of Laurel Before Hardy too. Just ordered the "Pocket Book" too...more expense!!! On Bowler Dessert Online, Willie pans a new "e-book" as a waste of money, which is a relief. No idea what an "e-book" is, the only one I know is "E" by Gum.

"Small contribution" ? More like a complete library! So what do you reckon is the best one? I reckon if you're limited to one, it would be Randy's book, as it covers the biogs and the movies all in one, but it's only my opinion.

Thank you Your Honour for your kind remarks.... I'm filling up here...... but I agree with your choice. Randy,s book " the magic behind the movies" is the best..... But.... it is a bit too big to carry around so I'm going to say "what was the film, When ?" the pocket edition is the one I'd go for. My final answer, I'm not even going to phone a friend. lol

Anyone seen the "bookazine" (yuk) in Sainsbury's throughout the country? It's been seen in about half a dozen branches, at £7.99. Academic intrest only, as it's too dear at the .99, never mind the seven quid.

I don't usually get to Sainsbury's Sounds like I aint missing much! Well, I was kindly sent some of this "product" by e-mail, and - on the contrary - you're missing a lot of "new" information!!!! Like Babe's first wife being Madelyn Saloslieu. I thought it was Saloshin, and so did her dad, who put it in the Atlanta Constitution, but you live and learn. Of course, there just MIGHT be other mistakes in this volume....farbeit from me.... Oh dear, there's a LOT of "new" information (sic) in the chapter on Babe. I wonder who made it up. Anyone who wants a list, PM me, space is limited here. There's now a partial review of this product in Bowler Dessert Online. We have a link, I believe.

Why thank you, Piedmont, but I fear it hardly qualifies as a "book"! (Not even a bookzine )
