Dear Sir / Madam,
May I give you advance notice of our next LAUREL AND HARDY film night to be held here at the Rex on Saturday 31st March at 7.30pm.
The programme will include WAY OUT WEST as the main feature and three two-reelers. We will also have our organist Mildred Sutcliffe playing our Conn 651 organ before the show and during the interval.
The shows have been so popular in the past that they have now become an annual event in our calendar. We have 300 seats and the atmosphere of a full house laughing at the antics of our two friends is truly heartwarming. It is an occasion to meet old friends and fellow Laurel & Hardy enthusiasts and it will mark the start of the celebrations to commemorate the centenary of our Rex cinema.
Tickets are £5.00 for all ages and may be purchased in advance from the cinema or by post if you send a stamped addressed envelope with a cheque payable to 'Rex Cinema (Elland) Ltd'; unfortunately we have no facilities for credit or debit cards. The choice of seats depends on your time of arrival; actual seats can only be reserved for parties of ten or more. I hope to see you and your friends on the 31st March.
We have some space for people wishing to set up a few stalls for recruiting purposes, or sale of memorabilia, for no charge. If you would like to take advantage of this, please let us know as soon as possible. We don't have many tables, however, so if you can bring your own this would be helpful.
Yours faithfully,
Charles Morris
P.S. Elland is midway between Halifax and Huddersfield, 5 minutes from the M62. Leave the M62 at Junction 24 and follow the Halifax signs (A629). After one roundabout, if coming from the East, or two if coming from the West, the road takes you downhill through a high arch underneath the motorway; beware of the 50mph speed cameras ! Take the first slip-road (signposted Elland), first exit at the roundabout at the end of the slip-road, first exit at the next roundabout, third exit at the next roundabout (you are now in the centre of Elland). Follow the main road as it bears sharply left uphill, then take the next turning right which is Coronation Street; you will see us on the left at the bottom. There is a car park just beyond the cinema, also one behind it (reached by a road to the left just before the cinema). There are other car parks in the town and, of course, you can park on single yellow lines at night. Please be aware, however, that parts of Coronation Street and elsewhere have parking for residents only, at night.
P.P.S. We will be happy to admit stall-holders from about 6.00pm and will welcome everyone else when the doors open at about 6.45. Prior to that we expect to be clearing up after our usual Saturday afternoon matinee and getting everything else ready for the evening. There are several pubs, cafes and restaurants in the town should you wish a meal before the programme starts.
