Stan and Ollie are chimney sweeps. They go to professor Noodle`s house, who has just finished a rejuvenation potion. They proceed to destroy his chimney and unwittingly, Ollie becomes a human test subject.
Another classic Laurel & Hardy film, with the simplest of plots, and lots of funny moments. There`s a nice touch at the beginning of the film as professor Noodle`s cuckoo clock chimes, just as Stan and Ollie arrive!
There's also some very interesting dialogue featuring the butler Jessop...
OLLIE: How do you get on the roof?
JESSOP: The standlamp is in the closet at the top of the stairs. You`ll know which is the closet, it has a door on it!
The film moves along very pleasantly with some very funny sight gags. There`s the classic moment as Ollie falls down the chimney and gets bombarded with some very well timed loose bricks. He hits Stan over the shin with one of them, and you actually feel the pain for him! (ouch!)
The way Stan scoops up the soot into the bag, makes a great scene, as he accidentally scoops it into Ollie`s trousers. After Ollie realises, Stan takes off his hat so he can be whacked over the head with the spade. (ouch, again!)
The film ends quickly but nicely, as the professor (who has an amazing laugh) demonstrates his new `rejuvination` potion. As he leaves to find Jessop to experiment on, Stan suggest they try it. As Ollie is carefully trying to pour the potion into the water, Stan knocks him in and Ollie ends up turning into a chimp.
A great film this, lots of good gags. A true classic. 8/10
