The 31st UK Convention will be held at The Four Pillars Hotel, Witney, Oxfordshire OX28 4EX. There is a gymnasium and swimming pool. See the hotel's website www.four-pillars.co.uk/Witney/home.html
Unsurprisingly, the theme for this convention will be the 1940 film "A CHUMP AT OXFORD" where the boys went to obtain the best education money can buy. The Live Ghost and the Saps at Sea Tents will jointly host the convention because, well, two heads are better than one (we hope). Roger and Del have rounded up the usual suspects to form an organising committee who have already put in a deal of hard work, but we know it will be worth it to see all those smiling faces. The main reason why we enjoy the UK Convention so much is that every year we go back to sharing the company of some of the nicest, most interesting, fun-loving people we know. The itinerary is not yet finally decided, but watch this space for news of the programme. We are determined to put on a great value for money weekend of entertainment, full of fun and laughter (what else?)
The convention cost will be £225 per person based on two people sharing a room. We have kept the price the same as the last convention, because we are all victims of the depression! But if you are flush, the hotel has a few "luxury" rooms which are a lot bigger than the normal rooms and a king size bed. Let us know if you'd like one of these rooms which would cost you an extra £20 a night and this would get you a daily basket containing soft drinks and two half bottles of wine.
There are no single rooms in the hotel so if you must have a room to yourself it will be a double and will also cost an extra £20 per night (ouch, sorry about that). If you want to share a room, but don't know who to share with, we can put you in with somebody (don't worry, it's only for three nights!). The convention fee includes the hotel accommodation, the breakfasts, the banquets, travel to Witney and Oxford and all entertainment. You may pay in instalments if you wish, but the complete fee must be paid by 31st March 2010.
If you would like a Convention T-shirt waiting for you on arrival, please include an extra £10 payment for your shirt. Don't forget to specify your shirt size on the booking form.
Now, here's a good thing! You can have a discount of £5 if you pay your full convention fee by 1st October 2009. Not only that, but full payments made by that date will earn the delegate a FREE T-shirt.
There are no lifts in the hotel so if you have difficulty with climbing stairs please let us know as soon as possible so we can allocate you a ground floor room. These rooms will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Please print off the booking form. You can contact any one of the committee members if you have questions. So BE BIG! - come along and join in the fun and spread the word to any of your friends who enjoy Laurel and Hardy!
