Someone asked me for all the words of Trail of the Lonesome Pine - both verses - for a Xmas quiz. Here they are:
(Words by Ballard McDonald, music by Harry Caroll).
On a mountain in Virginia Stands a lonesome pine. Just below, is the cabin home of a little girl of mine. Her name is June and very very soon she'll belong to me For I know she's waiting there for me 'Neath the lone pine tree
I....n the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia On the Trail of the lonesome pine In the pale moonshine, our hearts entwine Where she carved her name and I carved mine Oh June...like the mountains I'm blue Like the pines, I am longing for you... In the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia On the trail of the lonesome pine.
I can hear the tinkling waterfall High upon the hill. Bluebirds sing, sing so cheerily, To their mates with rapture thrill, They seem to say, your June is waiting there, Longing still for thine For I know she's waiting patiently, Where that lone pine shines...
I...n the.. (etc)
"Longing still for thine (!!!)" They don't write 'em like that any more. It was originally recorded by a male singing group on an Edison cylinder in 1913, which is still around, and at least one Son has an original copy.

Glad to be of service, but I'd still love to know the name of the "group" that first performed it on the Edison cylinder. I have heard it, but the "artistes" are not credited. Maybe we have to send to Cyprus for the answer.
