Amazon UK is offering some reduced-price DVDs of interest, for a while in this run-up to the festive season. Here's some examples www.amazon.co.uk/Laurel-Hardy-Ba ... 5&sr=1-313 www.amazon.co.uk/W-C-Fields-Six- ... 1&sr=1-527 www.amazon.co.uk/Steamboat-Bill- ... 9&sr=1-539 www.amazon.co.uk/Flying-Deuces-D ... 5&sr=1-593 www.amazon.co.uk/Laurel-Hardy-Co ... 4&sr=1-666 www.amazon.co.uk/Buster-Keaton-V ... 2&sr=1-685 There' are also some individual discs from the Universal set, at £3.99 each, including Sons of the Desert and Way Out West , and I noticed a Harold Lloyd title, The Sin of Harold Diddlebock (Mad Wednesday). The "Bandits/Wooden Soldiers" 2-disc set would be a good present for an enemy, as it's the appalling Eureka offering, where even Stan's surname is spelt wrongly, and the sound is way out of synch on "Bandits" (at least on my copy). At £2.99 I reckon it's about £2.98 over-priced, which is why I've avoided using the word "bargain". But there are some good potential money-saving ideas for festive presents and treats, though Amazon is still offering the whole 21-disc set for under £40 including postage, so the individual discs are not exactly good value. Worth cheking the whole list of "Under £4 Classics" in the current sale, particularly if you are also a fan of the "Carry-on" series, and of John Wayne (but no Fighting Kentuckian, unless I missed it.) Some Cary Grant movies and other stuff well deserving of the nanme "classic".

If you mean the advance order colour version, I agree, Piedmont, and my order's been in for a week or more. I also have an e-mail assurance that it will be the new colour version, because the cover shown on the description is the old b/w one. When I asked for the assurance in writing (ie letter) they told me that any customer not satisfied with a purchase has the right of complaint, which is hardly reassuring, but for the moment, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Delivery expected first week of December.

Update: I received my order today, and of course it's the black/white version, even though the Amazon description still says "PAL, Colour", and I have had three assurances from them that it is colour, two of those assurances in writing. The Trading Standards people have loked into this, and have indicated it is clear misrepresentation of goods for sale, and is considering a prosectution, for which I will give evidence.
