Ollie is in hospital with an injured leg. Stan, having nothing else to do, pays him a visit, causing complete havoc within Ollie`s hospital room.
County Hospital starts off quite well, with some funny scenes with Stan as he is trying to find Ollie in room 14. Stan panics when he arrives at room 14 and a nurse leaves the room carrying a baby. Fortunately, Stan is on the maternity ward, Ollie is on the next floor.
Stan eventually finds Ollie...
OLLIE: I didn`t expect to see you here today
STAN: Well I didn`t have anything else to do, so I though I`d drop in to see you
Stan even brings Ollie a small gift...
STAN: I brought you some hard boiled eggs and some nuts
OLLIE: Now you know I can`t eat hard boiled eggs and nuts. If you wanted to bring me something, why didn`t you bring me some candy?
STAN: They cost too much
OLLIE: Well what has that got to do with it?
STAN: You didn`t pay me for the last box I brought you
A nice little dialogue scene is then followed by a more silent scene where Stan sits and eats an egg. The way Stan eats the egg is very clever. It`s amazing how funny he does it. Stan had a knack for this has he did it several times in other film, including the `wax apple` in `Sons of the Desert`.
It`s nice to see Ollie relaxing in hospital, then having it totally disrupted by Stan, especially when the doctor arrives, and ends up hanging out of the window.
The cutting the pants routine is good. Ollie asks Stan to cut out a leg of his pants so that he can get his bandaged leg in. Unfortunately, Stan cuts out the wrong leg, so Ollie cuts out the other, then later discovering they weren`t even his pants, but his co-patient's!
All well and good up to now, then there`s that really painful moment when Stan sits on the syringe full of sleeping mixture. (Brings tears to your eyes when you see the needle go in) It concerned me that the nurses of the hospital let Stan leave under sedation like that to drive home. Luckily though, Stan only had to drive in front of a very badly done back projection scene, which really spoils the films ending.
Not too bad a film, but the end is dissapointing and embarrassing to watch. 6/10
