Ollie is a brain specialist. Stan is his associate advisor. It is their first wedding anniversary. Celebrating their marriages to each others sister`s.
They try and arrange a special night out with their wives, instead they just have a dinner together at home, which leads to a family argument.
This is a very interesting and funny short. Stan & Ollie play both their usual characters and also their sisters, similar to how they played their own kids in `Brats`. This time though, their sister`s voices are over- dubbed by female voices which do actually suit the characters as women, although seeing Ollie`s version of a woman, is a bit scary.
There are quite a few good gags throughout the film. The first one being a very obvious one, as Ollie is typing with a strategically placed glass of water at the end of his desk in line with his typewriter. Even though you know what`s going to happen, when his typewriter reaches it, it does make you laugh, just to see Ollie`s reaction when it gets knocked over.
The next funny scene is when Ollie is on the phone to his wife. He realises Stan is listening in and retaliates by sending feedback through Stan`s end of the phone. This leads to Stan getting his back by pouring water through the phone and blowing it into Ollie`s face at the other end. very clever. Ollie tries the same with some ink, but it blows back in his own face.
Stan on phone to his wife...
STAN: Say listen, Ollie wants to take us out tonight to celebrate our university
after phone call...
STAN: I was just talking to Fanny
OLLIE: What did she say
STAN: She said that we can`t go out tonight, that we have to go right home
OLLIE: Why?
STAN: Cause she`s got a surprise for you
OLLIE: What else did she say?
STAN: She told me not to tell you she had a surprise
OLLIE: well don`t tell me
STAN: I won`t, I can keep a secret
There are quite a few good gags to keep this film going, but it does weaken towards the end as the dinner table scene is milked a little. There is a good scene with Stan though as he is watched by his wife as he tries to eat his soup. he gets nervous and gets confused. Some funny moments as he tucks the table cloth into his shirt, and even butters his hand instead of the bread.
Not a bad film really, one I haven`t watched for a while and I enjoyed it more this time round. It has some great gags, well executed, but the idea of seeing Stan & Ollie as their own sisters is a bit surreal. I think that`s down to the voices used though. 7/10
