I have emailed Gary and Steve about this but I tought I would post for people who know David , I received an email from Roger Robinson Dave Wyatt was rescued from a very serious fire at his home address that occured on 9/4/09. I have been able to establish that he is now at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in the burns unit. He is heavily sedated and is ventilated which means that he would not currently be in a position to recognise any vistors. Presumably the heavy sedation is to ease the pain that he must have suffered. The hospital have told me that he is likely to be in there for another 3 weeks or so. I will keep in contact with the hospital and advise everyone of any change of condition. I'm sure we will all be thinking of him and wishing him well in his recovery. here is a link from the local paper about the incident www.harrowobserver.co.uk/west-london-news/local-harrow-news/2009/04/09/burns-man-rescued-from-kenton-house-fire-116451-23351611/David is a really great guy and I am sure those of us who know him from the Laurel and Hardays send him our prayers for a speedy recovery and all our best wishes

Neil, I know you're in touch with Gary, why not put the idea to him. A card would be a nice gesture from our tent.

I`ll send one from all of us anyway , I already have one I know we all wish him well
just had an update on Davids condition on the L&H forum
"I just spoke to one of his nurses. David is being cared for in the burns unit but as he is on a ventilator he also has intensive care staff looking after him.
David inhaled a lot of garbage and is supposed to have a tracheotomy today. His white blood cell count does not indicate an infection. (Please God he doesn't get an infection.) He's on antibiotics. He's having physiotherapy. The sedation has been increased. He opens his eyes but the nurse doesn't think he's really aware. (I put her right on *that* score. Been there, done that.)
He has burns on his shoulders, back, neck, back of his head, and hands. His face is all right.
The ICU nurse wasn't sure about visitors in the burns unit. Call ahead.
David has a long way to go. Please share this message and keep him in your prayers.
All best, Ali Stevenson Manchester, NH"

Roger Robinson sent Ross an Email which he posted on the forum " He is an isolated ward by himself with 2 carers. He is on ventilation and sedation - the latter to give his skin time to heal. Although he had wires and bits coming from him I was able to talk to Dave and it was brilliant to get the response I did. His eyes lit up and smiled at seeing me (now that doesn't happen too often when people see me!) and he squeezed my hand. I passed on the best wishes of all Sons everywhere, in the UK, Europe and USA because I know from the responses that everyone is thinking of him. He was visibly moved when I said this and smiled when I said some things to amuse him (such as I should have brought him hard boiled eggs and nuts). It was all going all right and although he cannot speak as such, he was attempting to reply and I understood some of the words by the shape of his mouth. I also asked him to a do a thumbs up if he understood what I was saying and he did so. I told him about the Statue Unveiling, the new Museum and the upcoming Convention in Ulverston next wekend. I told him that I know Sons will rally round to help him in anyway possible but for the time being his concentration should be in getting himself better. He acknowledged this. Our 'conversation' was probably only about 10 minutes and I could see getting very tired so it was time to depart. I am certain that as he closed his eyes he will be content in knowing that the Sons of the Desert will be there when he needs them.
He is obviously not up to having regular visitors and think the hospital will let us know when this is more appropriate. At the moment he is in the right place to receive the care and attention that he needs. He is on the mend.......but it will take time"
nice to hear Dave recognised him

Well strangely enough this was posted on the L&H forum just now
"The UK Laurel and Hardy Convention will be taking place at Ulverston over this weekend and, as we are all having the time of our lives, we will be thinking of Dave Wyatt on his road to recovery. I phoned the hospital this afternoon and after enquiring about his progress, the male nurse went away and after some time returned to tell me that by lip-reading (he says he has become an expert) that Dave says "I am doing well and getting there slowly". I asked that he be told that all The Sons of the Desert send their best wishes to him and are thinking of him and was told that this will be conveyed.
It does sound as though his progress is good. I know that at Ulverston several Sons want to get together to discuss and arrange appropriate support for Dave. (It looks as though he has lost pretty much everything in the fire). The Sons, being the Sons, I know will come into their own in their collective and thoughtful response. I will update everyone of the outcome of the discussion and ask Webmasters etc to let everyone know.
Thanks
Rogerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"
so it sounds like he is improving but also that he has lost an awful lot in the fire , I will let you know if there is any more news

Just got this in an e-mail.... Hello Boys and Boyesses,
The Sons of the Desert are currently grouping together, to try and rebuild the Archive which popular and ever-present Son David Wyatt recently lost in a tragic fire at his home. While the hospital staff are giving their expert care to David, we can get busy collecting together as many LAUREL & HARDY, CHAPLIN, and FILM RELATED books, films, and memorabilia as possible, to present to him when he comes out.
For details of how you can donate items to "DAVE'S ARCHIVE" go to this website, then follow the link.
www.laurelandhardythebritishtours.com/
At the moment you are only PLEDGING items. PLEASE DON'T SEND THEM just yet. When replying, please send your pledges to lahbritishtour[at]aol.com
Meanwhile please circulate the appeal to as many Sons and Chaplin fans, as possible; plus, of course, websites, magazines, and Tent newsletters.
Thanks in advance.
“A.J”
