Oh dear, oh dear. Makes you wonder where all these ideas come from. Even the legend about Babe being descended from Capt. Thomas Hardy is incorrect. Babe's family originated in Yorkshire and emigrated well before the Battle of Trafalgar. The good captain came from Kent, and lived out his days in Greenwich, London. Nothing to to with Babe at all. Reader's Digest, too...tut tut..turrut.

Nice one Agnes.... course we all know Nelson was a "Poof". I doubt if Emma Hamilton would have agreed with you, and their daughter, Horatia, would have been very confused. I just wanted to lay the myth about Babe being descended from Nelson's first officer, Capt. Thomas Hardy, to rest once and for all. Babe's family came from Richmond, in Yorkshire.

I think the original article was meant to be funny and it's good that the youngsters still remember Laurel & Hardy.

Babe's birthday on radio.
I managed to get Babe's "birthday" announced on Talksport Radio during the night. I mentioned that L & H movies are still enjoyed all over the world, and the presenter said: "They certainly are".

Good on you Judgefoozle ;D you're keeping the 'Boys' names at the forefront in the media, We should all do that when we get the chance, then, they will never be forgotten ! not that I think they ever will.

I've always said that each tent should have a nominated media contact, always ready with audio clips, comments and items of interest. All members can contribute. Surely one objective of the Sons is to keep the name of the Boys in the forefront. It only takes a phone call, e-mail, text etc., but if you can build up a "relationship" with a radio or TV station, they'll come back to you time and time again, and will always be pleased to hear your suggestions for an item. Talksport happens to have national and international listeners, but your local station is just as important, and can even attract Tent membership. Some local radio stations have specialist "correspondents", sometimes including Vintage Film. Go for it.

Talksport Radio broadcast an audio clip of Thicker Than Water overnight. Predictably, it was the "money" dialogue, but the presenter, a "temp" standing in for a couple of nights, declared he was a "huge" Laurel and Hardy fan, and just had to include something from them in the progamme. Excellent taste! (Very unusual for Talksport). I sent a mesage of congratulations with a request for more of the same, but when the usual DJ comes back, it will go back to Michael Jackson. My e-mail was read out, which led to a few comments about the Sons of the Desert, so a little bit of exposure for the Boys and the Sons. And you can't say that very often these days.

Actually, the "discussion" went on for over half an hour, with me firing off e-mails in quick succession, but there's no way of recording it. You can't "save" your e-mails to them, and the show's not on i-player, but at least we got the Boys discussed on national radio for once. At one stage the presenter burst out laughing, thinking aloud of scenes from Below Zero and Laughing Gravy, and he said he would try some of the movies on his kids. Every little helps, as they say...
